Jake, Klingman, AZ

Hiking Dog Jake
"Jake hikes every weekend with his hiking family. On long hikes, he gets to wear his own backpack and carry his own supplies. On shorter hikes, he makes his mom carry his stuff!"

Gryphon & Edgar, Vermont

"We love hiking all year round..snowshoeing,canoeing,skijoring and kicksledding, too! We are thrilled that this site supports hiking with a leash ( we use a trekking line)...We like to keep safe! The only thing we ( well, actually our humans) don't like about hiking, is when people don't clean up their dog's land mines!"

Trail Hounds' Note: Thanks to Gryphon & Edgar for practicing responsible hiking and helping make our trails a safer place. By the way, we found these links for skijoring and kicksledding - Bow Wow!

Midget, West Harwich, MA

"We live at the beach all year round, and get to splash in the ocean every day. The best part about walks on the beach is chasing seagulls."

Riley, Westlake Village, CA

"Our walk took an unexpected turn this morning off of the sidewalk and onto a hiking trail! It must be Christmas! Rabbits, deer, coyotes, birds - I smelled it all. Could've stayed out all day, but I had to get home to wake my girl who's home for the holidays."

Ruby & Chester, Charlotte, NC

"The most exciting part of the day for Ruby and Chester is when I come downstairs with my walking shoes on and head for the leash drawer. Since our toy poodle, Ruby, is now 13, we keep close to home and adjust the lengths and timing of our walks according to how hot it is. Luckily, our neighborhood has a nice wooded nature trail that ends at a pond. Ruby and Chester, a 2 1/2 year old mixed terrier, couldn't be more different in their hiking styles. Ruby likes to take her time and really examine each and every smell, while Chester likes to bound ahead. I make sure each of them gets a little of what they want."

Lily & Sydney, Paramount Ranch, CA

"This was my dog Lily's first time hiking on a real trail. You start off walking through an Old West movie set, but then you can hike on mini trails. She loved it all the way from the beginning to the end."

Henry, California

Henry, California

"Henry hiked the ridge in our neighborhood for the first time. He enjoyed it a lot (aside from all of the burrs in his fur)."

Leo, Cary, NC

"Leo loves to run in our front yard. He's not old enough to hike on a trail yet, but when he is, we plan to take him to Helmlock Bluffs in Cary, NC. This trail makes me feel like I am hiking in Asheville, NC."

Leo, North Carolina

Sydney, Mt. Whitney, CA

"This is me and my kids Erin and Ryan on one of my first big hiking trips, ever. We climbed for hours, up to Lone Pine Lake on Mt. Whitney (two photos, above). You may notice that I was a bit distracted by the view--who could blame me!"
